Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a versatile, energetic professional to manage our business development efforts in Western North America. Reporting to our VP Business Development, North America, you’ll make a valuable contribution to our organization’s success by developing solid customer relationships at Tier 1 through 3 levels, support Mining Business strategy development and implementation by providing accurate market data, developing opportunities, and organizing and delivering compelling proposals to drive increased sales. Ideally, you’ll be based in our Vancouver office and available for significant travel as required to support customer and opportunity development.


You’ll work with senior management, technical and execution teams to identify opportunities to win and deliver capital-efficient projects that meet or exceed our clients’ objectives. You’ll be responsible for understanding the competitive climate, identifying and pursuing opportunities and leading, managing and/or supporting the preparation and on-time delivery of proposals. You’ll need to acquire a solid understanding of our client base, our capabilities and our global personnel, resources and offerings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Establish/assume, develop and maintain strategic relationships with clients throughout western North America and support those customers outside the region
  • Act as a sales lead, and monitor sales progress and performance in your region in CRM and in presentations
  • Manage and deliver accurate analyses and reports on markets, prospects and sales, coordinate with project, operations, commercial and finance team leads
  • Develop opportunity pursuit and win plans and then establish and lead the implementation of the proposal strategy
  • Write and/or manage development of proposals, presentations, risk reviews and marketing materials to support specific opportunity pursuits from studies through EPCM and EPC execution and support all parts of our mining business
  • Provide input to and Implement business development and marketing strategies
  • Direct research activities to identify emerging market opportunities and monitor competitor activities
  • Represent Wood within mining industry organizations at all levels and in our communities

Skills / Qualifications

  • Related engineering degree, or graduate of an Institute of Technology; MBA also an asset
  • Minimum 10 years of proven business development experience with an EPC/EPCM/PMC, preferably in the mining market
  • Knowledge of commercial, economic and business issues relating to the mining industry
  • Excellent communication, presentation and people skills
  • A demonstrated capacity to build strong relationships with clients
  • Proven planning, organization and data interpretation skills driving a proven track record in meeting deadlines
  • Ability to identify and develop value propositions and opportunities
  • Full proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CRM tools is an asset
  • Proficiency in English; Spanish would also be an asset
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
