Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Mining & Minerals business is currently seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to fill the role of Mechanical Plant Layout Designer, Senior , based in our Vancouver, BC office. Reporting to the Mechanical Department Manager and working alongside other team members, you will have the opportunity to provide support on our major projects. Plant Layout and Design

 

  • Ability to lay out mining / mineral processing plants for all levels of project: scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, FEED, detail design
  • Draw from career experience on previous projects to follow best practices and to produce the optimum layouts
  • Career experience allows the successful applicant to bring innovation, equipment densification, and capital efficiency to projects
  • Able to review designs from previous projects to come up with viable cost effective designs for a new, or brownfield, facility or project. Able to scale a reference design up or down to suit new project needs
  • Ability to turn a process flow diagram into a viable plant layout
  • Reviewing project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy

 

Leadership

 

  • Leading a design team, directing their work assignments, and reviewing their work for technical accuracy
  • Reporting on progress of team, including man-hour estimating, budget control and scheduling
  • Leading work groups or project teams with limited supervision
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff, including assigning work and evaluating technical competence
  • Visiting plant sites for review and field measurement when required (minima travel required)
  • Establishing good working relationships and communication with area leads, department managers, clients and other team members to coordinate, ensuring the compatibility of design
  • Working with multi-discipline teams to develop optimum equipment layouts in accordance with client's and other established standards

Skills / Qualifications

  • 20+ years’ experience in mechanical design of industrial and mining plants, with 10+ years’ experience in senior-level mining plant layout design on multiple projects working closely with clients
  • Experience working directly with clients on major projects and megaprojects
  • Must have experience in layout of mining / mineral processing facilities
  • Proven experience with AutoCAD 2D
  • PDMS experience is an asset but not required. Experience with another 3D software would be an asset
  • Experience in checking. Experience with model viewing software like Navisworks or SmartPlant review is an asset
  • Preparing, updating and checking mechanical deliverables including: General arrangement drawings, detail drawings, and design sketches in accordance with established quality procedures
  • Reviewing project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy prior to issue
  • Very good communication skills (verbal and written)
