Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Process Specialist with extensive experience in new technologies in the hydrocarbon industry to join our team in Oakville, Canada.


This position primarily provides process expertise on a new technology that converts lipids to hydrocarbons. The process is similar to, but different than delayed coking. We are looking for flexibility in thinking, as this is a fast-paced project that will require some development over the next few months, but will also be starting construction in 2018.


The candidate will also support overall development and execution of the project. In this position, the Senior Process Specialist provides process engineering expertise for detailed design, start-up, system optimization, and trouble-shooting. As a specialist in developing technologies, the candidate is expected to suggest creative and feasible solutions for overall process development and help in proving the technology. The candidate is expected to be ‘hands on’ with respect to trouble shooting, supporting the trial runs at the pilot plant, assessing the results and recommending technical solutions.    


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the process design from a technical perspective
  • Work closely with client technical representative to provide “proof of concept” for the new technology
  • Develop and/or oversee production of engineering reports, studies, calculations, PFD’s, P&ID’s, GA’s, equipment specifications/data sheets, and review/approval of vendor submittals
  • Assure quality of design documents and process deliverables
  • Participate and lead Client and project team meetings to establish project objectives and coordinate and/or resolve design problems
  • Manage projects within budget and schedule constraints by interacting with Clients, team members and management to resolve project roadblocks

Skills / Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Chemical Engineering (Professional registration is a plus)
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the consulting engineering profession with progressive roles in working in a team environment on design of hydrocarbons/petrochemical projects
  • Experience in Chemicals and Oil & Gas Industry is required; More specifically:
    • Delayed Coking
    • Distillation
    • General Refinery
    • Commissioning
    • Pilot Plant Operations
  • Experience in a variety of technical and/or operational assignments in the petrochemical industry is a plus
  • Expertise in manufacturing processes with a demonstrated ability to translate that expertise into cost, quality, and/or capacity improvements is a plus
  • Working closely with both a small team and independently is an asset
  • Communications with senior levels of client management team will be required
  • A willingness to travel as needed
