Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Senior Project Manager with >10 years’ experience to support our Capital Projects Group by managing large, complex environmental remediation projects. These projects typically require coordination of a large number of inter-related tasks and management of multi-disciplinary technical teams and subcontractors. Project size varies from $2 to $20M and may include soil and sediment excavation and transportation, site restoration, landfill construction, decommissioning and demolition. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, team-building, and stakeholder management skills. The individual will have a proven track record of pursuing and executing environmental construction projects in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project resources, schedule, and budget
  • Prepare proposals for large remediation pursuits
  • Ensure proper implementation of project safety and quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures
  • Work directly with senior-level personnel in interpreting the actual needs of individual clients
  • Determine required scope and level of effort of project work, including the degree of completeness and precision to which project elements should be addressed
  • Coordinate site activities with Wood staff, contractors, subcontractors, agency personnel and client representatives
  • Exercise independent professional judgment not subject to close review
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in directing and managing large multi-disciplined projects includes earned value management
  • Provide technical direction to and mentors subordinate staff
  • Responsible for ensuring the Firm’s administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followed
  • Represent Wood and interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understand, apply and oversee safety requirements in the field

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Capable of providing an effective Quality Assurance / Quality Control role in his/her technical discipline
  • Effective at representing the firm in verbal presentations to clients
  • Meet with client representatives at the direction of more senior personnel, and conduct his/herself in a manner compatible with the firm’s professional standards and financial goals
  • Capable of supporting moderate to large sized multi-disciplined technical and price proposals for clients
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred discipline (engineering or science)
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Experience managing radiological remediation projects preferred
  • Experience with managing the implementation of remediation projects including, but not limited to decommissioning and demolition, excavation and transportation of sediment / soil contamination, radiological decontamination, slurry wall, and/or landfill cap projects
  • Experience leading field staff, laborers, equipment operators and other personnel on projects
  • Experience with provincial and federal environmental regulations
  • Good organizational, technical, writing, communication and team-building skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with subcontractors required
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

License / Certification Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course, if required
  • Ability to pursue certification/registration in engineering or geology
  • Formal project management training and PMP certification desirable
