Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has a long-term career opportunity for a Senior Estimator with experience in cost estimating Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects including transmission and distribution systems as well as substations. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for supervising capital cost estimates for all power transmission and distribution projects, from conceptual to detail design. Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing AACEI Class 1 through Class 5 capital cost estimates in accordance with industry, client and corporate standards
  • Developing capital costs that include labour, materials, equipment, consumables, construction rental equipment, construction indirect costs, corporate indirect costs, contingency, escalation, etc.
  • Managing the estimating process for several estimates at the same time
  • Managing and improving the cost estimating process, procedures and tools to efficiently deliver capital cost estimates
  • Mentoring, coaching, directing training initiatives, and overseeing technical performance for the T&D estimating program
  • Managing workload in coordination with department and project management
  • Reviewing cost estimates prepared by third parties for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Performing estimate reconciliation exercises and providing recommendations
  • Visiting job sites as required, to understand applicable constructability considerations
  • Maintaining and updating the estimating database in terms of material price, labour man-hours, and other reference materials
  • Communicating, consulting, and liaising with staff, engineers, clients, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Successfully working under deadline pressures in an efficient and effective manner
  • Build and maintain technical expertise, including familiarity with latest construction methods

Skills / Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in estimating capital costs for power transmission and distribution projects
  • Sound knowledge of construction processes with knowledge of a wide variety of electrical equipment and methods of installation
  • Knowledge of the industrial pricing environment within the electrical construction industry with a qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical background would be considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, mentoring, coaching and collaboration skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computerized estimating programs
  • Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal and client relationship skills
