  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is hiring a Geotechnical Engineering Team Lead to join our Environment & Infrastructure Solutions group based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.   Reporting to the NB/NS Geotechnical Group Lead, you will be responsible for the leading the growth, development and supervision of the Geotechnical Team in our Dartmouth operations. The successful candidate will consult on projects in North American and with international clients’ projects including: traditional geotechnical fields such as building foundations and structures, roadways, retaining structures, levees, etc.; mining projects - designs of earth dams, tailings and sedimentation ponds dams, water diversion and/or control features and hydro-electric dams and water retention sub-systems feeding in to hydro-electric generating systems, etc.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Participate in marketing efforts, prepare technical proposals and reports which may include; design, analyses, geotechnical subsurface explorations, earthworks design, slope stability analysis, construction documents and management of construction monitoring services
    • Undertake business development with new and existing clients, establish and maintain client relationships
    • Assist in the mentoring and development of junior and intermediate engineers in the group
    • Lead and manage a team of Geotechnical Engineers
    • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams, working with other professionals, to deliver high quality projects on time and within budget
    • Oversight on technical quality, and delivery on projects including design, review and project management, as well as supporting the operation
    • Coordinate delivery of engineering services and project management according to client-approved scopes of work
    • Consult on Dams, Tailings, heap leach and mine waste management projects for our North American and International clients
    • Create Business Plan for market penetration of geotechnical Services locally with the use of the accredited lab
    • Provide senior review design, working with a multi-disciplinary team including hydrogeologists, hydrologists, geochemists, rock mechanics, environmental, and other disciplines
    • Provide leadership, management and mentoring of technical staff
    • Manage contractors and sub-consultants on your projects

    Skills / Qualifications

    • B.S. or M.S. Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering preferred
    • A minimum of 15 years of related technical experience and 2 years managing a team
    • Experience with dam analysis, tailings characterization and technologies is an asset
    • Familiar with geotechnical engineering analysis, design, and construction
    • Enthusiastic, self-starter with desire to provide excellent service to clients
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
    • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, Micro Station, LIMS)
    • Willing to travel and work out of town for extended periods of time
    • Physical requirements may be required to lift to 50 pounds and traverse over rugged terrain
    • Must pass drug test, background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
