Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is recruiting for an experienced Water and Wastewater Modelling and Planning Engineer for the Burlington, ON office. Reporting to the Water Infrastructure Manager, the successful candidate will use their technical abilities to complete hydraulic analyses and master planning of water and wastewater infrastructure systems in a team setting. An excellent communicator, both oral and written, with strong organizational and leadership skills. The successful candidate must possess strong hydraulics and computer modelling skills and bring familiarity and skill with the commercial water and wastewater modelling software platforms, in addition to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This is an environment where your abilities will strengthen and grow through a diverse range of master planning and hydraulic analyses projects focused on the delivery and management of water and wastewater solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Perform detailed studies, modelling and hydraulic analyses of municipal water and wastewater systems
  • Identify and communicate technical issues in written, spoken and other forms using a variety of tools (GIS, graphing, modelling software, video, report writing etc.)
  • Provide solutions that demonstrate an understanding of the link between models and real-life systems, as well as implications for infrastructure users
  • Provide regular progress updates of work to meet schedule and budget needs
  • Effectively communicate with clients
  • Utilize modelling tools such as; Innovyze, Bentley and PC SWMM, SewerCAD etc.
  • Participate in the planning and sharing of model licenses within the Water Infrastructure group
  • Conduct; sewer hydraulic grade line analyses; dynamic and steady state; sanitary sewer model build & calibration; flow monitoring data interpretation and management
  • Conduct system Planning, identification of flood vulnerabilities, system constraints, development and analysis of alternative solutions
  • Strong technical writing skills

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil / Environmental from an accredited University
  • 10 to 15 years experience in water and wastewater planning, modelling and design experience within engineering consulting environment
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral
  • Experience in the use of Innovyze, Bentley and PC SWMM
  • Focused on providing quality services to our clients in a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects
  • Experience with inflow and infiltration evaluation, system capacity evaluation, hydraulic grade line analysis, identification of system weaknesses / constraints and development & analysis of alternative solutions, systems optimization considered an asset
