Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a Mechanical Industrial Design Engineer to provide design engineering support in the St. John’s, NL Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, prioritize and complete design projects for various clients
  • Coordinate project work with other engineers, technicians, designers and/or or drafters
  • Design components and assemblies related to your area of expertise
  • Conduct research and analysis, and recommend designs
  • Coordinate multi-discipline designs
  • Receive and review process and product requirements, work with suppliers to obtain information and quotes, and generate specifications
  • Identify broad conceptual ideas and develop them into useful solutions
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document engineering solutions
  • Collaborate with clients, suppliers, vendors, and other disciplines to gather information to draft reports, and complete mechanical design
  • Establish continuous improvement plans where efficiency, quality, safety, or service can be improved
  • Preparation of drawings and sketches as required

Skills / Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, eligible for registration with PEGNL
  • 5 - 15 years’ experience in design, preferably in an industrial setting
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, codes, standards, and equipment to the design and production of various products
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models (ex. AutoCAD, Solidworks, Revit, etc.)
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
