Overview / Responsibilities

Wood’s Mining & Minerals business currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Junior Buyer at our Saskatoon office location 


Key Responsibilities 


  • Develop, maintain and issue Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages while coordinating with construction management on technical information
  • Vendor prequalifications
  • Participate or lead vendor negotiations regarding commercial terms & conditions for purchase of equipment and materials
  • Prepare commercial evaluations while coordinating with construction management
  • Complete and issue recommendations for approval
  • Work within the project management system to set-up and issue Purchase Orders
  • Prepare and manage change notices
  • Monitor supplier performance and conformance to commercial terms
  • Expedite delivery of materials
  • Nominate transportation modes interfacing with logistics management
  • Provide input into the procurement status reports
  • Complete purchase order close out process 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Must have minimum of 1-3 years of purchasing experience within EPC/EPCM projects preferably with mining industry experience
  • Technical college diploma and/or university degree
  • CPP designation or equivalent
  • Requires highly effective skills in organization, planning and communication and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Detail and goal-oriented
  • Strong business computer skills
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills for managing/assigning work and tasks and interacting with high level project management, Clients and vendors
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory
  • Experience working in an engineering consulting environment is preferred
  • Experience in commodity buying is preferred
  • Construction experience in a heavy industrial environment is an asset
