    Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Transmission Engineering Manager, Transmission & Distribution. Reporting to the Manager of T&D Engineering, this position is located in our Vancouver, B.C. office. This role has overall responsibility for efficient technical and administrative management and supervision of all department engineering resources.     The Wood Vancouver office services multiple industries including Power & Energy, Mining & Minerals and Environmental & Infrastructure performing consulting and EPCM services executing world-class projects on five continents.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Build and provide leadership to the department team
    • Manage, motivate, coach, direct, and support department staff
    • Establish objectives and priorities for the department
    • Administer the department, including maintaining workload forecasts
    • Maintain direct communication with department staff through regular meetings and individual performance evaluations
    • Prepare staff appraisals and recommend staff to senior management for promotion, salary level, work assignment, and external training
    • Assign department staff to projects with a view to career development and succession planning
    • Provide specialist technical input to project work and participate in engineering reviews
    • Promote, supervise, and monitor compliance with Wood quality assurance procedures
    • Ensure the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design
    • Monitor and promote productivity measurement, benchmarking, and quality improvement of project work
    • Participate in business development and marketing activities as directed by senior management
    • Participate in the preparation of engineering estimates, budgets, cost estimates, and scope change notices for projects and proposals
    • Travel and visit client sites and offices during project definition, detailed design and construction
    • Maintain and enhance relationships with internal groups and external contractors and clients

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States
    • Thorough understanding of transmission line design codes, standards and regulations in Canada and the United States
    • 10+ years of engineering experience in a Transmission and Distribution Utility or EPCM organization designing transmission lines at voltage levels from 69 kV to 500 kV utilizing PLS–CADD/PLS-TOWER/PLS-POLE
    • 3+ years of demonstrated experience managing groups of engineers, designers, and drafters
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
