  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently recruiting a Scientist, Engineer or Technician to join our team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced environmental, building or occupational health and safety professionals looking to further develop their career and work on unique and exciting projects.

     

    This is a key position in our Health safety and Environment group. The candidate will provide project management and technical support to our dynamic and growing team supporting the construction, building management and decommissioning industries across Canada. The Candidate will also provide client support on a number of project portfolios and key environmental program initiatives.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    Typical duties may include:

    • Project management
    • Assess and prepare proposals
    • Provision of designated substances and hazardous materials surveys and preparing management plans (i.e. lead, mercury, asbestos, PCBs, etc.)
    • Provision of mould evaluations and indoor air quality assessments
    • Provision of asbestos abatement and mould remediation inspections
    • Provision of air sampling and calibration of equipment
    • Phase Contrast Microscopy analysis for asbestos and other fibres
    • Supervising or completing senior technical assignments including assessment and abatement programs, specification development, and reporting
    • Completion of occupational hygiene field programs including noise and worker exposure monitoring
    • Assisting building science and architectural professionals
    • Training internal staff and clients in hazardous building materials, mould and other occupational health and safety topics
    • Prepare and submit high quality technical reports and technical documents; Provide technical review.
    • Client and regulatory liaison
    • Business development
    • Stay current in area of professional practice and become recognized as a specialist internally and externally
    • Optimize use of internal human and physical resources in order to deliver the highest quality products on time and on budget
    • Build strong and enduring relationships between Wood and its clients
    • Mentor and assist in the training and development of more junior staff
    • Work occasional off-hour shifts as required in order to accommodate assessment and inspection services required as part of evening, night and weekend work
    • Work on project sites within Manitoba and occasional out of province including working in conjunction with other offices

    Skills / Qualifications

    • University degree or Technical Diploma graduate with a directly related degree in engineering, science, occupational health and safety or building science
    • Professional certifications such as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Registered Occupation Hygienist. Certified Industrial Hygienist, or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist are considered an asset
    • Minimum 8 years industry or combined industry and academic experience conducting environmental site assessments, contaminated site investigations and remediation projects
    • Strong written and oral communication (English)
    • Strong workplace safety practices and training
    • Class 5 driver’s license and a good driving record (driving abstract required)
    • Participate in criminal records checks and/or drug screening for site access
    • Strong communication and report writing skills
    • Demonstrated word processing and computer skills
    • Self-motivated with good organizational skills, can take initiative, handle challenges, prioritize multiple tasks, and provide superior service to clients
    • Demonstrates a commitment to personal and professional career development
    • A background in building construction or building science
    • Specific asbestos and/or mould training considered an asset
    • Must be fit to wear a respirator
