    Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer, Senior. Reporting to the Civil/Structural/Architectural Department Manager, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for the structural design on projects in the Transmission and Distribution industry.     Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the design of electrical substation structures for 12kV to 500kV, including switchgear and control buildings, switchyard and gantry structures, as well as telecommunication structures, retaining wall and transformer oil containment systems.
    • Lead the design of foundations for transmission towers, steel monopoles and wood pole structures.
    • Leading projects from concept stage through construction, including mentoring junior engineers and designers
    • Writing specifications and reviewing project documents, including checking for technical accuracy
    • Ensuring personal and team output is completed on time, on budget, and exceeding quality standards
    • Preparing technical scope of work, engineering budgets and schedules for proposals, estimates and change notices
    • Leading a team of engineers and designers to develop safe, constructible and innovative design solutions for brownfield and greenfield substation projects in feasibility and early engineering stages
    • Efficiently and effectively managing multiple tasks independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Proficiency in concrete, steel and masonry design
    • Providing engineering technical support to the field during construction
    • Participating in client technical, Safety by Design and constructability review meetings
    • Traveling to and visiting client sites

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or higher specializing in structural design.
    • Professional Affiliation (P.Eng) in the Province of B.C or eligible to register with the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
    • Professional Registration in the US is an asset
    • Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience in operations and engineering roles of increasing responsibility on electrical substations and/or heavy industrial projects or related design experience.
    • Broad knowledge of general structural and architectural designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards, and construction methods.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellence in leadership and mentoring abilities through proven employment experience.
    • General working knowledge of structural analysis software (STAAD Pro and SAP) and drafting software (AutoCAD, PDMS and MicroStation) are an asset.
    • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, such as civil, structural and architectural is an asset
