  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is hiring multiple on-call Archaeological Field Technicians to join our Environment & Infrastructure Solutions group based in Southwest Ontario for the 2018 Field Season. The successful candidate(s) will be working from a field location in Brantford, ON. Wood will provide travel assistance from a mutual meeting point from one or more of our offices in London, Cambridge, or Burlington.


    Reporting to the Ontario West Archaeological Group Lead, the Archaeological Field Technicians will be responsible for fieldwork inclusive of: test pitting, pedestrian surveys and test unit excavations. 

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
    • A minimum of one (1) field season of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation
    • Willingness and ability to work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements, and to carry out frequent and rigorous manual labour (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling)
    • Identification of archaeological artifacts in the field
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work well as part of a team, or independently when required
    • Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects (hotel stays), if required
    • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and be capable of repetitive movement of shoveling and screening soil/earth
    • A valid Ontario driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
