  • Overview / Responsibilities

    General Role:

    Wood is seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to join our Calgary Business Development team. This is a pivotal role reporting to the Vice President, Strategy & Development that is focused on the growing our business in the midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry. 


    Key responsibilities:


    • Proactively identify and pursue project opportunities within the defined regional focus
    • Develop and utilize industry contacts to define opportunities and develop new clients
    • Lead generation and prospecting via networking and cold calling to primary target markets
    • Establish and maintain deep client relationships.  Initiate and maintain regular contact with all important decision sources within key accounts.
    • Develop and manage account plans for prospective and existing clients
    • Work with the Segment Leaders and other key internal stakeholders in developing and implementing effective “project win” strategies.
    • Gather and share key market and specific client information allowing Wood to proactively prepare for bid strategies before RFP’s are released.
    • Ensure placement of Wood on approved bid lists with strategic accounts.
    • Assist in writing proposals and provide full support to the proposal team
    • Partnering with operations by facilitating and contributing to productive debate on business development strategies.
    • Develop and execute a market coverage plan ensuring Wood is present and active at key industry events and that key Wood leaders and experts are featured and known in the marketplace.

    Skills / Qualifications


    • 5 years business development experience with a professional services organization.  Preference to those with experience in EPC(M) capital project execution.
    • Proven track record and demonstrated knowledge of Strategic Selling principles for professional services and complex sales. Familiarity with strategic selling toolkit will be an asset.
    • Proven track record in building new client relationships.
    • Strong understanding of the Energy Industry and the Supply Chain with preference for midstream and downstream sectors.
    • Strong relationships in the midstream and downstream sectors as well as the overall business community
    • A business degree or engineering degree is an asset
