  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking an Intermediate Hydrologist / Civil Engineer to join our dynamic Water Resources team in the Maritimes. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in water resources, civil, or environmental engineering.

    Fredericton, NB; Dartmouth, NS; or Moncton, NB

     

    Our Team:

    Our Water Resources team works within a multidisciplinary group consisting of geotechnical engineers, hydrogeologists, construction managers and project managers.  We are a highly technical team, are client focused and challenge driven.  Our clients span many different industries including government, mining and oil and gas.  As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on projects all over Canada and worldwide that range from small, single discipline projects to large, multidiscipline projects.  As part of the larger, worldwide Wood team, we have access to some of the leading technical experts to help solve all types of problems and pursue different and challenging projects.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical expertise as well as support hydrological designs, proposals and reports
    • Identify new business opportunities and support the technical component of business development materials
    • Collaborate with other departments, environmental regulators and Wood offices on project related work
    • Conduct a wide variety of hydrological assessments and floodplain evaluations using various techniques and modelling software
    • Conduct dam breach assessments in accordance with applicable dam safety guidelines
    • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
    • Perform engineering calculations and develop hydrologic and hydraulic models Design of hydraulic structures related to mine water management
    • Conduct field investigations
    • Produce written reports

    Skills / Qualifications

    Role Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in water resources/civil/environmental engineering or equivalent; Master's degree is a plus
    • Relevant experience of 3-7 years is ideal, which may consist of a combination of Master’s work and employment experience
    • Experience with hydraulic structure design – channels, culverts, weirs and spillways
    • Ability to build and maintain professional and personal networking relationships, both internally and externally
    • Ability to work as a team and independently
    • Strong problem-solving skills and outside of the box thinking
    • Technical writing and communication skills
    • Strong work ethic

    Other Assets:

    • Knowledge of mine water management
    • Experience using AutoCAD and GIS mapping software
    • Experience completing stream flow measurements
    • Experience hydrologic / hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM model suites, and FLO-2D
    • Experience preparing water balance and statistical analyses; GoldSim experience a plus
