  • Overview / Responsibilities

     

    Wood Canada Limited is recruiting a Protection and Controls (P&C) Engineer with experience in the electric utility industry. The P&C Engineer is responsible for providing protection and controls engineering design, construction and commissioning support to our electric utility and industrial clients.   We are looking for a creative and dedicated individual who will fit with our collaborative culture.     Responsibilities

    • Ensure Health and Safety and environmental regulations are followed methodically
    • Detailed design of protection and control systems for both medium and high voltage indoor/outdoor substations and transmission lines, primarily for electric utility companies
    • Preparation of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable schedules
    • Provide mark-ups of existing substation schematic and wiring removal drawings (as applicable).
    • Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, short circuit, relay setting calculations and protection coordination studies
    • Ensure conformity and completeness of engineering packages against project requirements;
    • Preparation of bill of materials for procurement of P&C equipment and systems
    • Provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning of P&C systems
    • Travel to vendor sites during fabrication and job sites during construction

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Eligible for registration as a professional engineer with PEGNL
    • 7 years relevant experience on Electrical Protection and Controls projects
    • Solid knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and CSA Standards and Codes
    • Attention to detail and pride in work quality
    • Excellent verbal, written communication skills
    • Strong client focus
    • Resourceful team player with self-starter aptitude

    Desirable Skills / Experience

    • Familiarity with Canadian electric utility industry practices;
    • Understanding of functionalities of Electrical Protection, Control systems, Substation Automation systems and SCADA/RTU systems;
    • Familiarity with modern Substation Automation communication standards and protocols (e.g. IEC 61850, DNP 3.0);
    • Experience with protection and automation devices and software (ABB, GE, SEL);
    • Experience with ETAP, PSCAD, CDEGS and other power system study software;
