    The Transportation business sector in BC and Yukon is set for incredible growth over the next 10 years, attracting major federal, provincial and municipal investment measured in the tens of billions. Wood, one of the region’s largest and most established engineering companies, is looking for someone to take on the challenge of helping Wood deliver these complex and exciting projects and to be a part of changing the transportation landscape in the region.


    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is looking for an experienced Transportation Manager to fill the role of Transportation Business Manager within our Infrastructure Business Unit based in Burnaby, BC. As a member of the management team, the Transportation Business Manager will lead all aspects of the transportation business across the British Columbia and Yukon region. Responsibilities will include: business development, client account management, strategic business planning, and business unit resourcing. In addition to these functional responsibilities the right candidate will bring a strong understanding of the design and construction management of transportation infrastructure projects. The right candidate will have experience of current procurement processes such as P3, EPCM and Design Build along with the more traditional procurement models.


    Responsible for identifying business development opportunities for the Transportation Infrastructure Business, the right candidate needs to be able to influence others and command attention. Business development and client account management will be a key responsibility of this position. One of the primary responsibilities for the successful candidate will be Wood’s Client Account Manager for TransLink and BC Ministry for Transportation and Infrastructure. This will require a direct role in developing and maintaining relationships with key persons within these client organizations, and many other similar client organizations such as BC Ferries, identifying and positioning Wood for future opportunities, securing and delivering projects across the region.


    The ideal candidate will have significant transportation engineering experience along with the management and leadership skills that will promote Wood’s business growth in the transportation sector. The transportation group within the Burnaby office has extensive, long standing experience with many provincial and municipal clients. The candidate for this role will be working with staff members that are well respected in the industry with in-depth knowledge of the transportation engineering sector. The other Canadian Regional offices in the Wood E&IS group also have transportation teams and promoting business across all of those regions is an important part of this role.  As one of the largest growing international engineering companies, Wood also provides the opportunity to work on many complex and challenging projects from other regions.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Develop and maintain close relationships with key Transportation clients and decision makers in all aspects of Transportation Infrastructure
    • Develop and growth the Wood brand in the regional Transportation Infrastructure sector
    • Manage the planning and design work for transportation infrastructure projects
    • Responsible for the management of project budgets, schedules and resourcing
    • Provide senior review of engineering project deliverables
    • Mentorship, supervision of and performance feedback to the Transportation team
    • Oversee the preparation and review of contract and tender documents
    • Lead the preparation of proposal and qualification documents
    • Closely monitoring client expectations and actual results delivered to clients
    • Identification and development of new business opportunities
    • Leading public open houses or presentations to councils, administration and the general public as required

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of decision makers and decision processes within key accounts in the BC/Yukon region
    • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff and build/retain a high functioning team
    • B.Sc. or M.Sc in Civil or Structural Engineering
    • Minimum 15+ years of relevant experience
    • Eligible to be registered with EGBC
    • Experience with Public/Private Partnerships and Design Build projects
    • Construction and post-construction engineering considered an asset
    • Public speaking and presentation skills considered an asset
    • Familiarity with the transportation sector in BC/Yukon and rest of Canada would be considered an asset
    • Proven project management experience
    • Proven business development and proposal writing skills
