  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Junior Rail Designer to join our rail team in Burlington or Richmond Hill, ON offices. Reporting to the Manager Rail & Transit, this position will be responsible for multiple aspects of heavy, commuter and light rail transit projects including but not limited to preliminary and detail design, civil infrastructure and the coordination/integration of other design elements including station design, structures and active transportation features.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Perform the production of heavy rail, commuter and light rail transit engineering design aspects for projects
    • Develop the project concept and definition
    • Participate in design process through the preliminary and detailed design phases
    • Participate in the preparation of the construction contract documents
    • Provide assistance during tender period and evaluation period
    • Preparation of presentations and reports
    • Meets client quality, schedule, and budget expectations

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
    • 1-2 years of design experience in Civil Engineering will be an asset
    • Experience in linear civil infrastructure, DTM surfaces, alignment, grading and drainage design would be an asset
    • Experience in AutoCAD/MicroStation and 3D CAD using Civil3D and/or InRoads design software is a must
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • Ability to work in order to meet cost targets, quality targets and deadlines
    • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the various parties involved in the process
    • Time management skills and ability to adapt to change
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to switch between tasks and assignments as required
