  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Rail Design Manager to join our rail team in our Cambridge, Burlington or Richmond Hill, ON office. This position will be responsible for coordinating design efforts with regards to heavy, commuter and light rail transit projects.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Oversee and lead the engineering design production of heavy rail, commuter and light rail transit projects
    • Manage the design process through the preliminary and detailed design phases
    • Manage the preparation of the construction contract documents
    • Provide assistance during tender period and evaluation period
    • Preparation of presentations and reports
    • Meets client quality, schedule, and budget expectations
    • Required to lead projects and coordinate the efforts of rail team, including associates and sub-contractors
    • Interact with clients on a regular basis
    • Provide technical direction to and mentors technical staff

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering
    • 10 years of design experience for Heavy Rail and large complex transit projects
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario (or similar)
    • Must have experience in design, for projects within the industry which may include Metrolinx for Transit & CN or CP Rail for heavy rail projects
    • Experience in AutoCAD/MicroStation and 3D CAD using Civil3D and/or InRoads design software is a must
    • Experience in linear civil infrastructure, DTM surfaces, alignment, grading and drainage design
    • Experience in the use and application of railway industry standards
    • In-depth knowledge of design processes
    • Experience in the preparation of design drawings and tender documents
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
    • Good knowledge of planning and other aspects of project controls
    • Ability to work in order to meet cost targets, quality targets and deadlines
    • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the various parties involved in the process
    • Time management skills and ability to adapt to change
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
