  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking a Director of Operations for our Fired Heaters operations, located in New Jersey.


    It is a role of significant accountability, reporting to a service line Vice President, and a member of the regional/business leadership team. The incumbent has full responsibility for operational delivery and P&L accountability, and supports the development and execution of the agreed business strategy for our equipment supply business.


    He/ she provides direction and leadership for the achievement of the strategic goals, vision and shared values through: finance, risk management, change leadership, people and culture, stakeholder management, governance, assurance, compliance, and reputation. They are accountable for maintaining existing relationships with key clients and customers; this includes the ability to deliver in a complex cultural environment, requiring previous international experience


    This is an ideal role for an individual with previous experience working in an EPF (Engineering-Procurement-Fabrication) business, in the energy sector, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is keen to play a key role in it’s growth, developing new opportunities and enhancing the service line delivery. EPF experience is desirable, but not required.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Define, shape, drive and execute operational strategy to support short and long term goals and future growth aspirations
    • The day-to-day management and operations decisions, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose and maintain service excellence;
    • Delivers operational leadership and has full P&L responsibility for their geographical area;
    • Defines and implements operational priorities, aligned with the needs of the business, focussing on efficient and cost-effective practices, programs and services, adding value to clients.
    • Manages the regional operations team to optimise delivery of objectives; includes building robust capability, appropriate succession and development of the team.
    • Understands tax and legislative regimes in country of operation or future growth, and maximises the region’s position therein
    • Supports Group safety vision, objectives and associated initiatives, ensuring the HSEEA culture is promoted and visible, with a focus on continuous improvement;
    • Represents the organisation on applicable government and trade body activity and relationships
    • Overseeing and monitoring the financial expenditures of the region within the authorised regional budget;
    • Identifies and assesses principal risks for the region and ensures that these are being monitored and managed;
    • Ensures that the region maintains high ethical standards and social responsibility wherever it does business;

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; Post-graduate business degree is desirable, but not required.
    • Minimum of 20 years of relevant expperience working in a similar environment, where 5-8 years have been in a senior operational management role. 
    • General technical engineering competency is necessary preferably in similar business (Equipment supply or an EPF company <Engineering-Procurememt;Fabrication>), supporting energy industry.
    • Significant experience and competence in operationally focused senior management roles within a complex international organisation, preferably within the energy industry
    • Demonstrable track record in P&L management in a customer focused role
    • Solid business acumen is required, demonstrated understanding of proposals, contracts and commercial elements of same, in a similar business.
    • This position requires demonstrated experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management (design, project management, procurement, quality assurance, quality control, and project control).
    • Ability to provide leadership to multiple disciplines across a large complex organisation
    • Change management, communication, and culture – ability to influence and enable, and drive company performance and culture through excellent communication
    • Demonstrated commercial acumen and credibility
    • Proven ability to establish strong and appropriate relationships with the regional leadership team, joint venture partners, senior clients, employees, relevant authorities etc.
    • Proven record of implementing and embedding a safety culture
    • Knowledge and understanding of workforce localisation programmes and initiatives
