    Wood’s perform consulting and EPCM services for many of Canada’s power generation and power transmission & distribution companies.


    Wood currently has exciting opportunities for Utility Telecom Engineers, both at a senior and intermediate level. Reporting to the Electrical Department Manager, these positions are located in our Vancouver, BC office.     Key Responsibilities

    • Scoping, estimating, planning and designing Telecom system designs for our transmission line and substation projects
    • Developing documents, schematics, and diagrams for utility-type Telecom systems as well as project scope, proposals, estimates, and budgets
    • Creating bill of materials for all Telecom equipment and hardware, ordering materials through procurement, and coordinating construction activities
    • Preparing and reviewing engineering documents, specifications, as well as inspection and testing procedures
    • Writing and planning project scope(s), staging plans, test plans, proposals, estimates, schedules, and budgets
    • Coordinating, staging and planning installation and commissioning with utilities and subcontractors
    • Responding to information requests from site and completing project documentation including as-builts, calculations and returning the data to the client
    • Traveling to site and liaising with internal groups and external contractors and clients
    • Enhancing and maintaining relationships with internal groups as well as external contractors and clients
    • Leading projects from conception through construction and commissioning, including mentoring junior engineers and designers

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electronics & Communications Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Professional Engineering Designation or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer or EIT with EGBC
    • For the senior position a minimum of 10 years of Telecom experience in a Transmission and Distribution utility or EPC/EPCM organization environment designing substations
    • Proven knowledge of SONET/SDH, PDH, TDM, Microwave radio, WIMAX, Ethernet layer 2 and 3 protocols, TCP/IP and MPLS networks
    • Working experience with communication systems in Power utility environments, including Microwave Radio, Fibre Optics, Teleprotection, High Voltage Entrance Protection and Power Line Carrier communication
